Bio:Former President Judge Joseph T. Doyle (Ted) was first elected to the Commonwealth Court in November of 1981, and was retained for a second ten-year term in November of 1991. In 1999 he was elected President Judge of the Court and in his position as President Judge, he created the Court's mediation program and served on the Supreme Court's Judicial Council. He was honored by the Delaware County Bar Association on January 16, 2001 for his public service and commitment to the legal profession and was presented with its lifetime achievement award. Judge Doyle was born and raised in Delaware County, attended St. James High School in Chester, and was graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree from LaSalle University in 1953. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from Villanova University Law School in 1958 and in 1990 earned an LL.M. degree (Master of Law in the Judicial Process) from the University of Virginia. The Widener University School of Law conferred on Judge Doyle the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws during commencement exercises in May of 2001. Before law school, Judge Doyle served two years of active duty in the United States Army with a tour of duty in Germany. He was admitted to the bar in 1959 and for many years maintained an active law practice in Media with his law school classmate John Currie in the firm of Trevaskis, Doyle and Currie. He also served as solicitor for several municipalities and zoning boards, was president of the Young Lawyer's Sect
