While in high school, I worked as a summer camp counselor and helped form a group called Transformed, whose mission was to engage other youth in the process of transforming our community. Our relatively quiet town had recently experienced a surge of crime and violence. Our group wanted to play a role in returning it to the safe, family-friendly community with which we were familiar as younger children. During this time, I developed an increased sense of passion and commitment for the world around me.
