| Practice:I previously co-owned and operated a carpentry sub-contracting company. Because I worked on job sites and managed the company, I understand the construction industry in a way that any other attorney that has never worked in the industry can.
I frequently represent home owners and business owners who fall for the confidence men that so many restoration salesmen are, and after getting the initial down payment they disappear or when you fire them because their work is obviously beyond unacceptable you find that the company recorded a lien on the title to your home and that is scary.
Liens are scary to everyone - including many lawyers. Many of my cases are referrals from lawyers who do not want to go near the Mechanic's Lien Act and 30 years ago I was also staying away from lien cases, but a new client asked me in 1996 to take 7 lien cases on -- my first cases after hanging my shingle, and that area of law became my favorite practice area.

I welcome no charge initial consultations because I believe that everyone should have the right to learn their rights. I also rarely charge my clients for phone calls because I want my clients never fear if they call me that they will be charged for it - instead, I want my clients to contact me all of the time because communication is important so that I can help alleviate at least some of the stress that the legal system inflicts on litigants.
My goal is to help my clients get through the often unfair legal system by explaining what their options are to save them money - we work together and I know and always keep in mind that I work for my clients.
I also work for general contractors, sub - contractors and owners in commercial jobs. Having owned a construction company, I have seen true craftsmen go unpaid or have to accept a percentage of what they were owed and I've seen contractors who have no pride in their work perform sub-standard work to make a quick dollar. As an attorney concentrating in Construction Law and Mechanics Lien disputes, I am constantly faced with the ugly side of the industry, and I understand the consequences of going unpaid, settling for a percentage of a contract and the bad contractors and the damage that they cause to owners -- and the damage that owners inflict on tradesmen.
