Bio:	Kara Semmler was born and raised in Sioux Falls and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1997. Mrs. Semmler earned a BS in Business Administration from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI in 2001. In 2004 she obtained her Juris Doctor at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. Upon graduation from law school, Mrs. Semmler returned to South Dakota to begin her practice. She spent two years in private practice with a Sioux Falls firm before moving to her husband's hometown of Pierre. After her move to Pierre in 2006 Ms. Semmler worked as a staff attorney for the Public Utilities Commission. In addition to the general regulatory work of the Commission, Mrs. Semmler specifically represented the intrastate gas pipeline safety department, the grain warehouse department and the South Dakota One Call Board. While at the Public Utilities Commission Ms. Semmler represented the Commission Staff in several large utility infrastructure projects and held a position on the Eastern Interconnection States Planning Council. Mrs. Semmler joined May, Adam, Gerdes & Thompson, LLP as an associate in 2012 and is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of South Dakota, the United States Federal Court, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
