Bio: Mary Anne became a Delaware lawyer in 1995, after graduating, and as valedictorian of her class at Widener Law School. As a Wolcott Fellow, she clerked for Delaware Supreme Court Justice Maurice Hartnett. Upon graduation, she clerked for Delaware Superior Court Judge Richard Cooch. Earlier on, she had clerked for the Public Defender’s Office, primarily for the appellate division, and had worked for the Delaware Secretary of State on special projects, including a review of Board of Pardons applications by persons serving minimum mandatory drug sentences. As a lawyer, Mary Anne practiced civil litigation on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, primarily in the areas of personal injury and contract law. She has worked pro bono for the Office of the Child Advocate and the Office of Defense Services. After taking time off to raise three children, she returned to the practice of law in 2015, joining The Law Office of Mary Higgins. Working now exclusively on behalf of Delaware consumers who often have no one to help them battle corporate debt collectors and credit reporting agencies has been particularly rewarding. The FDCPA and FCRA laws provide an avenue for individual consumers to vindicate their rights and take charge of their financial futures. I consider it a privilege to be able to use my skills and training to help individuals to stand on equal footing with the large companies who oppose them.
