Bio:Troy Slaughter grew up in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. He attended John T. Hoggard High School and during the summer months worked at Britt's Doughnuts. He received his B.A. in International Studies from UNC Chapel Hill in 1987. After completing Officer Candidate School, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence for seven years, both on active duty and in the reserves. He received his juris doctorate from the University of Tennessee in 1993 and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar that same year. Troy has continuously been in private practice in Wilmington and has represented clients in both State and Federal Courts. He has extensive experience representing individual plaintiffs in personal injury litigation, wrongful death litigation, workers' compensation, investment fraud, and tort litigation. He has handled numerous reported cases at the North Carolina Appellate Courts and has considerable experience in capital murder cases, admiralty cases, and declaratory judgment actions involving insurance coverage. Troy is a lifelong member of the Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, served as a Commissioner on the Planning & Zoning Commission for the Town of Carolina Beach, and served as the chair of the non-profit Carolina Beach Revitalization Steering Committee.
