Bio: Beatriz Ibarra is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants who came to the U.S. in 1971. Born and raised in Kansas City, she is grateful her parents raised her in a bilingual home that stressed the importance of education and, most importantly, family. Years of traveling back to Mexico exposed Beatriz to issues of inequality and border politics, which inspired a more than 15-year career in advocating for the rights of Latino families in the U.S. During law school, Beatriz worked at the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Francisco, CA, organizing families in the Mission District around the DREAM Act. After law school, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work at UnidosUS, the largest Latino civil rights organization in the country, working on policies to increase assets and wealth in the Latino community. Beatriz later served as Counsel to U.S. Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado where she worked to pass the DREAM Act and on other comprehensive immigration reform. Most recently, Beatriz served as Counsel to U.S. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, where she worked on issues in the fields of immigration, civil rights and higher education, among many others. Beatriz's extensive career experience has taught her to perform well under pressure; to think quickly on her feet; and to deliver high-quality results to her clients.
