Bio:Elizabeth Lewis Bates was born in New London, Connecticut. She earned her bachelor's degree from Smith College in 1975 and her juris doctor degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 1978. She was admitted to practice to Massachusetts in 1978, and practiced there with the firm of Donahue & Donahue in Lowell, Massachusetts from 1978 to 1981. Mrs. Bates and her young family then moved to Connecticut where she was admitted to practice in 1982. She began practice with the firm of Roberts, Cousins & Sweigart in 1983, and became a partner of the firm, then known as Roberts, Gaillard & Kambas in 1995. Mrs. Bates has been a resident of Greenwich since 1981, where she has been active in civic, church and musical organizations. While her three children were young she served for two years as Co-chair of The Parents Exchange sponsored by the Junior League of Greenwich. She has been a member of the Greenwich Choral Society since 1982, served on its Board for many years, and as its Chair for four years. Mrs. Bates is also active at Christ Church in Greenwich where she has served on numerous committees and as a member of the Vestry. At present she serves as Co-Chair of a lay pastoral ministry committee there called the Community of Hope.
