Bio:Jim joined the firm in 1985 and became a member in 1988. Jim focuses his practice in estate planning, trust administration, probate, tax, and business law. In his 29 years in practice, he has handled estate planning, administration of living and irrevocable trusts, probate matters, tax planning, organization and operation of corporations and other business entities, contract review and drafting, computer law, software development and licensing law and technology start-up companies, intellectual property, sale and dissolution of business entities, audits and disputes with the Internal Revenue Service. Jim received his A.B. degree from Brown University in 1972, his J.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley, School of Law in 1979, and his LL.M. in tax law from Golden Gate University in 1992. While in law school, Jim was associate editor of the California Law Review and wrote “People v. Pettingill: The Independent State Ground Debate in California” for the law review. In 1996, he wrote the tax law chapter of the Continuing Education of the Bar book, “Trade Secret Practice in California.” Jim is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Alameda County Bar Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco. Jim is married and lives in Piedmont, California. He has two sons, Matt and Chris, who have recently graduated from college.
