As a law student, Mrs. Babounakis served as both Chief Aide to Professor Nadine Strossen, the then President of the American Civil Liberties Union, and as an Associate Editor to the New York Law School Law Review. After law school, Mrs. Babounakis practiced law for five years at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, and Hamilton, LLP in Washington D.C. Her practice there focused on investigations, public interest and commercial litigation, and immigration law, including an asylum appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.In December 2009, Mrs. Babounakis joined ROOP XANTTOPOULOS BABOUNAKIS PLLC to blend her expertise in family counseling, corporate law, and litigation.
