Bio:Albano Comments on Media Rights Case The Enterprise, June 16, 2013 - In a decision that many believe supports the news media's First Amendment rights, a federal court in Boston recently ruled that anEnterprise reporter did not have to submit to a deposition about his reporting on a lawsuit. According to the court, the subpoena issued to the reporter did not have enough heft to warrant a casual trenching upon First Amendment concerns. The court dismissed the subpoena and awarded the newspaper its legal costs. Partner Jon Albano said that the ruling was a big win for the newspaper. It shows that it's important that reporters not be the first targets of subpoenas. Albano also said that the decision to award full costs of litigation was unusual. The court seems to be saying that it did not see any need for the reporter to be dragged into the case, he concluded.
