He has lived in Montgomery County for over 30 years, where he has raised a family and built a successful law firm. Gilbert attended Central Catholic High School. He went on to earn an Army ROTC scholarship and attended the University of Notre Dame, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government in 1975. After graduation, Gilbert headed back to Texas to attend the University of Texas Law School and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1978. While in law school and just after graduation from law school, Gilbert worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Bastrop, Texas where he was responsible for prosecuting offenses of all types. As a lead trial prosecutor, Gilbert gained valuable trial skills in prosecuting serious offenses including murder, DWI and drug cases. After he received his Texas State Bar license in 1978, Gilbert was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Army where he served as legal counsel in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. Gilbert proudly served his country as a prosecutor and defense attorney in the United States Army. Gilbert was assigned to Fort Sill Oklahoma with Temporary Duties from Texas to Panama.
