I had the opportunity to work with her on some of my Cases as a DCYF Social Worker; even though she disliked many of us back in the day, plus having a desire to get me fired. Much of her negative thinking back then (During my tenure at DCYF, formerly DSS during years 1989-1999) had to do with her lack of true knowledge of our jobs as Social Workers, What really shocked me was her transformation when she approached me in the halls of Brockton District Court & when she said to me, “Dick, I think I finally understand your job”! My jaw nearly dropped as I had wished I had a recording of her compassionate voice! What made this staunch Atty. made this turnaround? This happened probably between years 5-7 in my job. Needless to say she & I gained an utmost respect of our mutual job! I never shared this story before and hoped she gets to read this now and hope she would email me back. The bottom line with her I was she was a Very strong advocate for Children! As Social Workers we were not perfect, nor were Children attorneys, yet she & I became respected Professionals as well as respites Friends, The lesson to be learned for all is: Finding a true sense of Compassion for all concerned is a good thing for all quasi- competing Professionals! I admired her for her complete Transformation and her Passion to help Children. I hope she gets to read this as I saw no way to email her.
