In 2013, I received an offer to lease my minerals in Andrews Co, Texas from an oil company. I accepted the offer and closed the deal. Not long after, I received a letter from J. Brad Hickman charging me with fraud, demanding a return of said monies and threatening legal action as well as making it very clear what the penalties were for this fraud. The letter took a rude and unprofessional tone. These minerals were inherited by me from my Grandfather who purchased them in the 1950s. At the end of the day, I later found out the individual who sold them to my Grandfather didn't own quite as much as he sold. The net ownership was 42 acres and he was sold 111 net acres. This was discovered after the leasing company brought the title completely up to date, after they had leased from me. I had no idea, nor was it my responsibility to cure title before leasing. I have excellent credit and a sterling reputation in this business, which my family has been in since 1927. I immediately returned the overpayment after seeing the title work. Evidently this overzealous attorney jumped ahead of everyone in his zeal to clamp down on someone. He demanded that I not speak to the leasing company. His letter to me was appalling. Well I did immediately contact the leasing company, asked for the title work and refunded them the overpayment. I also asked them to put the brakes on Hickman. They apologized profusely for HIckman's behavior, case closed. Never received any apology or recompense from Hickman. I hope he's learned a few things since then. If I'd received any acknowledgement from him of his improper behavior, I wouldn't need to post this review.
