He attended and graduated, with honors, from Florida International University in 1995 with dual Bachelor's degrees in Political Science and International Relations, and a concentration certificate in Latin American Studies. After graduation from Florida International University, Mr. Fernandez attended law school at Nova Southeastern University, where he graduated with honors in 1999.Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Fernandez was selected, from amongst thousands of applicants nationwide, to serve as an Assistant State Attorney at the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, which is one of the four largest prosecuting offices in the United States. As a prosecutor, Mr. Fernandez was responsible for prosecuting various criminal offenses, from Driving Under the Influence to Homicides, and was quickly promoted as Assistant Chief of the Misdemeanor Division, where he performed important administrative functions, as well as supervised and trained incoming prosecutors. Mr. Fernandez's career as a prosecutor was served with the utmost honor and distinction, which allowed him to be selected to be part of the specialized Economic Crimes Unit, where he investigated, charged and prosecuted individuals accused of committing a myriad of financial offenses, ranging from Embezzlement to Racketeering.In 2005, Mr. Fernandez culminated his distinct career as a public servant and went into private practice.
