Practice Areas:Businesses: We offer a variety of legal services to small-to-medium sized businesses and partnerships in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia. For local merchants, restaurateurs, and manufacturers who need regular, reliable legal support, but think they’re too small for in-house counsel, we may be the solution. We offer effective, reasonably-priced representation and support for business and commercial disputes, including employee relations, licensing, contracts, protection of intellectual property, and commercial landlord-tenant issues. Securities Litigation: Our attorneys are also experienced securities litigators who have prosecuted and defended a wide variety of claims, including matters relating to broker misconduct or fraud, securities class actions and derivative shareholder actions. Individuals: We also represent individuals who require sound legal representation to resolve — and if necessary – litigate their dispute. In addition, we’ve acquired a reputation for helping clients whose previous attorneys have not done their job. When you have sought an attorney’s help with a legal problem, and your lawyer has neglected or outright mishandled the matter, you need someone you can trust to explain your situation and help make things right.
Bio:Harold F. (“Skip”) McGuire, Jr. is a graduate of Princeton University and Columbia Law School. He has been told he has an incisive mind, empathy for his clients’ problems, a distinctive and effective writing style, and a keen sense of humor. He has vast experience in a number of fields as a trial lawyer and litigation counselor, representing plaintiffs and defendants in courts and in arbitration. He began his career in 1962 at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and then served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York for more than four years, prosecuting numerous high-profile securities frauds and other white-collar crimes. For more than 25 years (1978-2003), Skip was the senior partner of a New York City litigation boutique. In 2004-2009, with another firm, he led the team that successfully prosecuted multi-billion dollar claims arising out of the bankruptcy of Global Crossing, Ltd. Skip personally took more than 30 depositions and was the lead author of numerous briefs in that case. All the defendants eventually settled. Skip’s other significant cases include the successful representation of the Major League Baseball Players Association in a series of collusion grievances against all the Major League baseball clubs, which resulted in a $280 million settlement in the early 1990s after 5 years of arbitration and more than 50 days of expert testimony from economists. He served as a court-appointed Special Agent to investigate and report on alleged securities and accounting frauds of International Systems and Controls Corp.
