commentHe helped me with an employment separation agreement. He improved the wording, but the result was the same as the company wanted – morally reprehensible, but legally what they could get away with.
What bothered me was that we were effectively done when the retainer still had 30% in it. He had given up, or said there was nothing more he could do. He asked for final copies of the separation docs, which I provided once I got them. That did nothing for me, it was for him to perhaps get a feeling of closure. In any case, it was for his benefit at that point, not mine.
What surprised me was he then billed me not only for the rest of the retainer, but for hundreds of dollars more. I regret paying it, and for engaging him in the first place. The end result was a waste of money, and a feeling of being fooled, of being ripped off.
