Owens advised actions that were guaranteed to rapidly escalate conflict between a disabled, elderly woman and her children. She blocked all avenues of settlement to insure that she could collect on fees in excess of six figures. Her tactics were brutal and often involved unethical maneuvers that were designed to deflect any effective opposition and wear down the elderly mother and her advocates. She's a legal bully who finds ways to drive a deep wedge between family members in any conflicted situation. In this case, the last year of the mother's life was dominated by legal wrangling and isolation during a period of months when Owens advised her clients to have no contact with their mother. The whole mess need not have happened and was set in motion by Owens' acceptance of a retainer check that her clients wrote on their Mother's account without her knowledge or consent. The mother already had her own estate attorney, and she was furious to find her children were using her money to hire their own attorney to challenge her competency. In the end, the family relationships were broken beyond repair, and after the mother died, Owens helped her clients seize control of the estate. She engaged in a series of inflammatory maneuvers to again create conflict within the family and block resolution of disagreements that could have been easily managed without litigation if an ethical attorney had been offering advice. Anyone who hires her can expect escalations in conflict, years of stress, and fees for service that will eat up astounding amounts of financial resource. Anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves facing Owens as an opponent will be victimized repeatedly if the conflict can't be quickly shut down by an attorney who has a reputation for managing situations involving attorneys like Owens. Finding anyone who is even willing to take on Owens is very difficult.
