I hired Sharon years ago to handle the dissolution of my marriage and development of a parenting plan. I made it very clear during our first consultation that I was seeking an attorney who was willing to request a co-parenting arrangement (equal time/decision making) even while I understood custody would likely go to the mother; so that it would always be on the record for my children that this was something I sought. A few thousand dollars later, I received the first draft of a parenting plan to review which was nothing like we discussed (every other weekend). And when I spoke to Sharon, she refused to request a greater amount of time under the argument that “the court would laugh at our request”. Long story short, I hired another attorney who had no concerns with requesting a co-parenting arrangement whereas we actually ended up with far more parenting time than Sharon was willing to request (every Tues, Thurs; and every other weekend). Sadly, my discussions with Sharon led me to believe she is biased against men as caregivers (as the court clearly had no issue us simply making the request). And as a professional, she never offered to refund the money I paid for a parenting plan we both understood was not what I had requested.
